Jan has been a full-time painter for many years. Her paintings and prints can be viewed and purchased at her studio near Kitchener-Waterloo.
Jan's work is also exhibited and available at MY PLACE, THE RESTAURANT, 96 Huron Street, New Hamburg, ON, Tel. 519-390-5599. Jan is fortunate to have her home and studio on a two acre parcel of land in Oxford County, just beyond historic New Dundee, that was part of her parents' farm. Jan loves the scenery, flowers, gardens and rolling panoramic hills that surround her home. Jan's living room overlooks the old log barn and the fields her father tilled for many, many years. Jan has two sons, a most handsome grandson Jaydon and a beautiful grandaughter Sara. Jan is very active in her community. She's a voracious reader and the founder of the St James Lutheran Church Book Club in New Dundee. She also coordinates a prayer blanket ministry at St. James reaching out to anyone, anywhere, in need of prayers... and a blanket. Jan's group of fifty knitters completed 52 blankets that were literally distributed across North America last year. |
Meet Jan Cressman-Weiss!
A NOTE FROM JAN SEPTEMBER, 2018 I have done open houses and studio tours for approximately 25 years, as well as marketing throughout Ontario in Art and Craft shows. The New Hamburg Studio Tour is unique, the whole tour can be done by walking the downtown! Merchants and churches, as well the restaurants, have opened their doors to artists in eight locations. I am at My Place Restaurant , upper level, 96 Huron St. I also have a display of paintings there all year round. It is a lovely, bright ,friendly restaurant owned by Jennifer. I highly reccommend it. The restaurant has a very relaxed atmosphere and good food! I paint mostly in acrylics now, farm scenes;autumn, animals and florals. I teach several classes per week, including adults on Monday evenings and Wednesday mornings. Children's classes are Thursdays after school. My classes are fun....you paint what you like...and I will help you. New students are always welcome....no experience necessary. Besides the paintings I also have note cards, copies of my originals, which make lovey hostess gifts and thank yous. I have a country property which gives me inspiration for different subjects. This year a doe and her twins visited my apple tree several times, in front of my barn. This scene will become a painting. Last year I had a family of six foxes living in shed just out from my studeo.They were such fun to watch. I did three paintings and cards. This year I also have a skunk living under my front porch....he will not be painted! Martha Hofstetter will also be part of the tour. Jan's Art...
Jan's painting style has evolved over the years. Although she has created many detailed landscapes in oil, Jan has recently begun to concentrate on acrylics of landscapes, flora and fauna. She has recently done animal portraits of a horse and of a polled Hereford named Willie! Jan's love of all four seasons is apparent in a current, 30X36 inch winter scene on her easel. Jan loves to experiment with different and challenging subjects. She feels that since her students seem willing to try almost anything that she needs to support their enthusiasm and curiosity.
